Solar is a gorgeous full Peruvian alpaca, and we're darn proud to have him here on our farm. He has quite a history. Solar's dam, PPPeruvian Sunflower, was on of the few alpacas selected in the 1996 importation. Sunflower has incredible crimpy fawn fiber. Solar was born in North America in February of 1996. He was owned b John Driscoll who used Solar as a top breeding stud on his farm with several hundred alpacas. It was here that Solar sired the first twins ever to be born and survive in North America. Here in the United States, Solar has continued his legacy in producing beautiful, colorful cria. Since his mom is a medium fawn and Solar himself sports two fawn spots only visible on his hind quarters when he is shorn, he almost always passes color on to his cria when bred to color. In our experience with Solar here on our farm, it has been 100% of the time! Solar has sired 15 cria here at Ideuma Creek, and the only one that has been white is Molly whose mother is a white Accoyo. But even Molly inherited her father's fawn spots, and we think she'll have the same ability as Solar to pass color on to her cria. Solar is known for passing on dense crimpy fiber, tons of coverage, and that face that everyone just loves. His cria have been purchased throughout the United States; many of his sons are now herd sires or future herd sires at other farms. Below are just some of Solar's cria. All three of the cria pictured below come from full Chilean dams. Solar can really improve fiber and coverage in just one generation! Adding Solar to our herd has really helped us to add fine, soft fiber, coverage, and lots and lots of crimp to our breeding program without sacrificing color. Solar's stud fee is $2000.
