Ideuma Creek's Bailey
I literally caught just the tail
end of Bailey's birth. Adrianna, her mom, has injured tendons in her
leg. She delivered Bailey laying down. When I walked in the barn and
saw Bailey's head already showing, I grabbed a towel and dashed into the pen.
Although Adrianna didn't need any help, I like to "catch" the cria's head with a
towel. Bailey came so fast, I almost didn't make it!
Right from the moment I saw her, I
knew Bailey was one special little girl. She is a reddish brown girl with
black and white on her face. She was strong, alert and with Adrianna's
gentle prodding, up and nursing within an hour. I just love this little
cria. She gives Orvis competition as far as the most affectionate cria
goes. She
always comes running over to me when I enter her pasture no
matter how far away she is. She nibbles on my shirt and always makes me
smile.
Her name came from a list my
sister, and my two nieces, Andrea and Michele,
made. There must have been
30 or 40 names on the list. John always has veto power, and I think
everyone was a bit disappointed when John went through the vast majority of
names with a highlighter. When John left, we picked up the list to see if
there were any names left that weall could live with. There was
"Bailey" - perfect. Mickey, Andrea, Michele and I just began calling our
new little girl Bailey and it just caught on.
Bailey has a sweet personality. She's friendly, affectionate, playful and independent, everything you could possibly ask for in an alpaca cria! We love her to pieces and are so glad she's here on our farm!
