Festiva's Once in a Blue Moon

We named this little girl, "Once in a Blue Moon", (Mooney for short) for several reasons.  We had just seen a special on the weather channel about a blue moon, and Mooney was born the morning after the blue moon!  In addition to this, we had just started our suri herd with the intention of creating beautiful suris in a multitude of colors.  We had three crias due this first year.  We were lucky enough to have a black female, a rose grey male, and now Mooney, a fawn female with a grey face.  Luck like this only happens once in a blue moon!  :)

Mooney's birth was one that I "predicted"; I noticed stage 1A labor's subtle signs.  When Dr. Camann came to draw blood for Nicholas, I let her know I would be calling her for Festiva's cria the next day.  I was right!  I watched Mooney's birth as I anxiously awaited the arrival of my sister and her family.  They were coming from Virginia to spend two weeks here, and I just knew my nieces would love Mooney.  I was right.  But who could resist those long, soft locks and big brown eyes?

Mooney is a terror.  She rips up and down the pasture with Milo and Maddie, often beating them despite her younger age.  She is as playful as she is beautiful.  She is very curious and seems to really like my sneakers for some reason.  I can always count on Mooney coming up to check them out when I sit down to rest on the bench in her paddock.  With her long locks and grey face, Mooney is a real looker, like her mom.  It truly is once in a blue moon that you see an alpaca as special as Mooney!
